Are your teeth crooked, uneven, crowded, or misaligned? Has the pain and unsightly appearance of braces held you back from fixing your smile? If so, Stonebriar Family Dentistry may have the solution: Invisalign!
Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays to gently and securely realign teeth, offering an alternative to traditional braces. Frisco dentist Dr. Chitre has taken both initial and advanced Invisalign courses to become an Invisalign preferred provider so that we can bring this revolutionary system to our patients.
Invisalign vs. Braces
Invisalign offers many advantages over traditional wire-and bracket metal braces:
- Clear plastic trays are nearly invisible when in place, allowing you to keep the esthetic of your smile during treatment.
- Aligner trays are removable, so you don't have to modify your diet while using Invisalign. Removable trays also make home dental care much simpler than traditional braces.
- Adjustments to traditional braces can be painful, leaving your mouth sore for days. In addition, the brackets can irritate soft tissues, and wires can become undone, poking into your tender gums or cheek. Invisalign's tray system is gentler and eliminates the painful wires and brackets.
- Invisalign's system requires less frequent trips to our office for monitoring and adjustment. Follow-ups usually occur every six weeks so that we can monitor your progress and answer any questions you may have.
Invisalign treatment usually takes about the same amount of time as traditional metal braces while offering all of the above benefits and more. With Invisalign, you can straighten your teeth comfortably and without the embarrassment of braces.
Getting Started with Invisalign
Invisalign can be used to correct a wide range of alignment issues, but the best way to find out if Invisalign is right for you is to visit our Frisco dental office for a consultation. Dr. Chitre will examine your teeth and discuss your desired outcomes. If you decide Invisalign is a good choice for you, we will take x-rays, photos, and impressions of your teeth and create a treatment plan.
The Invisalign Process
Once your Invisalign aligner trays are ready, you will come into our office for an initial fitting. We will send you home with your first three sets of trays, to be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. The trays can be removed while eating and brushing but should be left on while you sleep for best results and the fastest treatment time.
Every two weeks you switch to a new set of aligners, gradually shifting your teeth into proper alignment comfortably and safely. Follow up with us every six weeks to get your new series of aligners and to monitor your progress.
While every case is different, the average treatment time with Invisalign is around 12 months. Dr. Chitre will discuss your specific treatment plan to give you a better idea of how long treatment with Invisalign will take for you.
Once your treatment is complete, Dr. Chitre will advise as to whether a retainer is recommended to maintain your beautiful new smile. Invisalign's Vivera retainers are custom-made just like the aligner trays for a comfortable fit that will keep your smile looking great.
