The end of 2014 is just around the corner, and we know that everyone will be busy preparing for the upcoming holiday season. Stonebriar Family Dentistry would like to remind you that your dental insurance benefits will be expiring soon. We always receive many questions towards the end of the year with regards to dental benefits. We would like to take this opportunity to shed some light on how dental benefits work.
Every individual with dental insurance receives an annual maximum amount that the insurance company will pay. If your individual annual maximum is, say, $1000, this means your insurance company will pay up to $1000 before they stop paying. Now, how much your insurance pays per procedure varies quite a bit. Insurance companies generally cover preventive procedures such as your 6 monthly check-ups and cleaning at 100%. So, first and foremost make sure you get that second check-up and cleaning done before the end of the year.
The tricky part is when you need treatment such as fillings, crowns, or bridges. Typically, insurance companies will pay anywhere between 50-80% for these procedures. That depends on your individual plan. So, if you have any outstanding dental treatment that needs to be taken care of, and you have insurance benefits left for this year, now is the time to utilize them. Insurance benefits do not roll over to the following year. SO IF YOU DO NOT USE THEM, YOU LOSE THEM!!
At Stonebriar Family Dentistry we always recommend that patients take care of necessary treatment while maximizing their dental insurance benefits. We want our patients to spend as little out of pocket as possible.
The end of the year is normally our busiest time of the year because everyone is trying to utilize all their dental insurance benefits, so please do not wait until the last minute to schedule your appointment!
